How to Choose a Domain Name For A Blog?
Once you have come up with a name for your blog, you will have to pick the best domain you can get after. This is a crucial step, so you have to put a lot of thought and effort into it. Think about it for some time. The domain you pick will have to be available and as perfect as it can be. The decision you make will be hard to change once you start your blog, so be careful.
Below are some points you have to consider when choosing a domain name for a blog.
About your domain name
Your domain name is, obviously, important. It is important as much as your domain extension. The name you pick is supposed to give a hint about your company, your service, product, or just something about you.
Picking your name as a domain name
If you plan to start blogging about the services you offer and generally about you, choosing your own name as a domain name could be a good idea. You can often find great freelancers using their own names in their domain names.
Your company’s name
It makes sense to use your company’s name if you plan to start a blog about your company, obviously if it is available. However, if you own a company that has several products and services to offer, you might want to separate them. This will allow each product to have its own demographic and you will make sure that it reaches the right people.
Name and the niche you pick
Once you pick a niche you want to start a blog on, why wouldn’t you pick a domain name similar to that niche? You can always maneuver with it if you need to, but it is a great idea at the end of the day.
Think of something natural and try to stuff keywords into the name. Always try brainstorming for ideas. Sooner or later, you will come up with a name that suits your niche. Start with a simple word and then try adding a suffix or a prefix and keep doing that until you find something you really like. Play with the words.
Also, my recommendation is to go with something short, but strong. People tend to remember websites that have just one word in their name. This will be a big plus for you.
If none of these work for you, you can try using a random generator to help you pick a name. However, I personally don’t like this, since your blog will lose on authenticity.
Picking the domain extension
You will have to pick a domain extension when you are picking the domain name for your blog. This is also known as TLD (Top Level Domain).
As you already know, .com is the most popular TLD at the moment. Your blog will be in a better position if you are able to get a .com extension for it. People usually remember only the names of the websites. So, if someone only knows the name of your blog, that person will add a .com extension probably. Always go for the .com if it is available.
