How to Stop Wasting Time on the Internet

The importance of the internet in today’s’ world cannot be over estimated. In fact, the internet is something that can probably never be isolated. However, the reality is that many people waste their time on the internet knowingly or unknowingly. In fact, sometimes most people waste time that would have been used for study and learning on the internet through browsing and reading things that are good but at the wrong time. The reality is that you can stop wasting time on the internet if you choose to do so even though it requires a conscious discipline when following through some of the solutions as seen below.

Be Accountable

One of the ways to stop wasting your precious time on the internet is to hold yourself accountable. It is important to understand that you are responsible for making appropriate use of your study time and by wasting it on the internet; you should have it in mind that you are solely accountable for it. However, one way to go around this is by tracking your time. This is because you are less likely to waste time on internet if you are able to track how much you spend on the internet since you are likely to feel guilty when you review it. You just need to be proactive and not allow the internet control your time in such a way that it eats into your study time.

Have a Work Only Computer

There are students who have more than one computer but the best thing is to dedicate one of your computers for just work. For this computer, it is important to avoid installing things that raises your temptation to log into the internet. In fact in some cases, blocking techniques can be used to hold off installing them if needed. Another way is to use your computer in a location different from where you use your leisure computer.

Reduce Your Email Obsession

Too much time is wasted on the internet due to email addiction. This is because as you receive emails, there is a tendency to reply to all of them every time. When you keep replying to every email that hits your inbox, you will hardly have time to focus and concentrate on your studies and learning. The best way to do this is to block out time for email during your study hours then unblock them at a time when appropriate to reply to each and every one of them.

Disable or Eliminate Notifications

Constant notifications will take away your focus and concentration on your study. They have a way of diverting attention and you end up wasting time on the internet checking up these notifications. Disable notifications except the most important ones and then avoid keeping your social media apps open during study time and instead check them at specific times.
